Rowdy looks quite possessive over Ms. Lee’s new novel. Maybe he’ll share these with me?
The long, long, long, long awaited second novel by author genius Harper Lee has finally hit stores! I pre-ordered Go Set A Watchman months ago and received it last night. I don’t think I’ll see much of the outside world for the next few days.
I’ve mentioned this before on the blog, but To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite novels ever, and certainly my favorite among the classics. It spoke to me more than The Great Gatsby, Catcher In The Rye, and other crowd pleasers. Not only are Ms. Lee’s characters completely lovable, she’s an expert storyteller and writes about social issues with grace and foresight.
I’ve been trying to dodge the news articles popping up everywhere in recent days about controversies surrounding the book (Atticus may not be as saint-like as we think) so I can form my own objective opinion. I dived into the first chapter and was delighted – it’s Scout! She’s all grown up! And still feisty! Atticus is aging with some health troubles (tear) but is still demure and honorable. I can’t wait to read the rest.
